External influences should not corrupt the artist. The work always reflects the [inner self] or soul and experiences of the artist. It takes courage to see yourself in the creation. The most challenging thing in the whole creative process is to face your inner self and your subconscious world. True involvement to the creation comes from signing it with your soul.

Jade on imagery and technique:

"I start off with a blank canvas and begin painting before I know what it is that I am going to paint. Colour very much represents the mood that is created. Sometimes while I am going about everyday things I see a picture flash in my minds eye, and then I mentally start planning the layers. The great thing about using oil and acrylic together is that you can build up the layers, making some of them transluscent, and others thick blocks of colour.

When painting "Crossing", I tried a new technique that I hadn't used before. I love the effect as it gives a different kind of depth to the image, and is very fitting to the situation as I was in early labour at the time!" - Jade Ashcroft
